Q

I’m trying to get updates for my apps from the Windows Store, but when I do, it freezes. This happens every time I try to get the updates. How do I fix it?

If you are experiencing this problem whenever you try to get updates for apps from the Windows Store, try the following troubleshooting steps, in order.

1. Try restarting the computer. If the app updates still freeze, try –

2. Run WSReset.exe.

a. Swipe in from the right and select Search, then type wsreset.exe (or just type wsreset.exe at the Start screen).
b. When it comes up in Search, tap or click it to run it. This clears the local cache of Store data and forces Store to refresh its data from the cloud. Try getting app updates from the Store again. If it works, great! If not, keep reading…

3. Make sure you have run Windows Update from Control Panel (desktop) and installed all important updates:

a. Swipe in from the right and select Search, then type check for updates (or just type check for updates at the Start screen).

b. When it comes up in Search, tap or click it to run it. Follow the instructions to download and install all updates.
c. If Windows Update system is not working properly, use the “Fix problems with Windows Update” troubleshooter:
· Swipe in from the right and select Search, then type troubleshooting (or just type troubleshooting at the Start screen).
· Tap or click Settings on the right.
· Tap or click Troubleshooting in the search results.
· Select Fix problems with Windows Update.

4. If you’ve tried all three of the above solutions, and app updates still hang, Refresh your PC. This may require Windows 8 installation media.
