I liked the XP version on Spider Solitaire and would like to have it and Solitaire on my Windows 8 Desktop. How do I do this?

This game, along with all others Microsoft used to make available in their operating systems have been removed by design from Windows 8 and are not available. You can find plenty of free or for sale card games in the App store. Your other choice would be to search the web for third party games.
