How to remove Alexa Toolbar from Internet Explorer (IE) browser?

When Alexa Toolbar is installed, it keeps tracking every Website are visiting. Alexa Toolbar also sends this tracking information back to Alexa Toolbar database.

If you are concerned about your privacy and don't want your Web surfing history to be reported to Alexa database, you should remove Alexa Toolbar from your Internet Explorer (IE) browser.

Removing Alexa Toolbar can also make your Web browser run faster.

To remove Alexa Toolbar, try to use the Control Panel > Add/Remove Program tool first:

1. Click Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.

2. Find Alexa Toolbar in the program list, and click the Remove button. Alexa Toolbar Uninstall dialog box shows up.

3. Click the Uninstall button.

4. When uninstallation is complete, click the Details button. You will the following files are removed:

Delete file: C:\Program Files\Alexa Toolbar\uninstall.exe
Delete on reboot: C:\WINDOWS\System32\AlxRes.dll
Delete on reboot: C:\WINDOWS\System32\AlxTB1.dll

5. Reboot your computer.

6. Run HijackThis system scan. You will see 2 Alexa Toolbar configuration settings left by the uninstallation program:

O2 - BHO: AlxTB BHO - {F1FABE79-25FC-46de-8C5A-2C6DB9D64333}
   - C:\WINDOWS\System32\AlxTB1.dll (file missing)
O8 - Extra context menu item: Mail to a Friend... 
   - http://client.alexa.com/holiday/script/actions/mailto..

7. Select both lines in HijackThis report and click the Fix Checked button to remove those 2 remaining configuration settings from your system.
