WinZipUpdateNotifier_*.html Files
What are WinZipUpdateNotifier_*.html Temporary Files on my Windows 7 computer? Can I remove them?
✍: FYIcenter.com
WinZipUpdateNotifier_*.html Temporary Files
are created by the WinZip background process.
They are located in the \Users\<userid>\AppData\Local\Temp folder.
By default, WinZip is installed with a background process that checks for updates from WinZip Website. This background process creates 2 or 3 WinZipUpdateNotifier_*.html Temporary Files on your computer.
For example, 3 WinZipUpdateNotifier_*.html were created in one day:
12/15/2016 04:00 PM 886 WinZipUpdateNotifier_GMT_1481835608.html 12/15/2016 04:01 PM 1,092 WinZipUpdateNotifier_GMT_1481835669.html 12/15/2016 08:00 PM 886 WinZipUpdateNotifier_GMT_1481850053.html
WinZipUpdateNotifier_*.html are HTML files. You can open them in a text editor. What you see are 2 JavaScript codes. One of them calls Google tag manager to track your browsing history:
<!-- saved from url=(0014)about:internet --> <html> <body> <script> dataLayer = [{ "installed_language" : "en-US", "licence_type" : "0", "page_name" : "open.html", "user_id" : "C85B7636-1CB0-C85B-7636-1CB0C85B7636", "version_number" : "21.0.12288" }]; </script> <!-- Google Tag Manager --> <noscript> <iframe src="https://www.googletagmanager.com/ns.html?id=GTM-NBFDN5" height="0" width="0" style="display:none;visibility:hidden"/> </noscript> <script>(function(w,d,s,l,i){w[l]=w[l]||[];w[l].push({'gtm.start': new Date().getTime(),event:'gtm.js'});var f=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0], j=d.createElement(s),dl=l!='dataLayer'?'&l='+l:'';j.async=true;j.src= 'https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtm.js?id='+i+dl;f.parentNode.insertBefore(j,f); })(window,document,'script','dataLayer','GTM-NBFDN5');</script> <!-- End Google Tag Manager --> </body> </html>
WinZip is really a bad software. There is no need to background process to call WinZip server 2 or 3 times a day to check for updates. How often WinZip is updated?
Yes. You can delete WinZipUpdateNotifier_*.html Temporary Files, or disable the WinZip backgound process.
