Disk cleanup doesn't work on Windows 8

I tried to clean my disk today and it stalls when it goes to clean Update. I have Windows 8. Even XP worked better. What gives. I posted on another discussion, but that was made in July, so I needed to post a question of my own. Why is Win 8 screwing up? I finally gave up and cancelled. I'm afraid to even defrag. Why hasn't this been fixed. the other guy posted in July. this should have been reported and fixed by now.
