keyboard and touchpad not working on Windows 8 Ultra Book

Q

have a Sony Vaio SVT13124CXS ultra book running windows 8. I did a factory restore from the windows 8 option. After I restored the OS I installed Office 2013, Visual Studio 2012, and Chrome. Before restore everything was working fine but afterwards the keyboard and mouse do not work. If I use a usb keyboard , usb mouse, or the touchscreen keyboard they all work but the on board keyboard and mouse still do not work. Device manager is showing the following status for the keyboard: Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
and the following for the mouse:
This device cannot start.(Code 10) Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API.
I have made sure that the bios is updated to the latest firmware. I tried to uninstall the drivers and install the latest ones but this does not help. I have made sure all software is up to date. From what I gather deleting a registry key may fix the issue but I do not know what one to delete and do not want to do it unless I have tried everything else.

What is the exact model of your laptop?

We get the error code 10 if the device has a FailReasonString value in its hardware key, that string is displayed as the error message. The driver or enumerator puts this registry string value there. So, I would suggest you to update the mouse drivers and check.

Follow these steps to update mouse drivers.
a. Press Windows key + X and select Device Manager.
b. Search for Mice and other pointing devices and expand it.
c. Right click on the touchpad drivers and select Update driver software.

We get error code 19 when more than one service is defined for a device, if there is a failure opening the service subkey, or if the driver name cannot be obtained from the service subkey.

I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the keyboard drivers and check.

Follow these steps to update key board drivers.
a. Press Windows key + X and select Device Manager.
b. Search for Keyboards and expand it.
c. Right click on the keyboard driver and select Uninstall.
Now restart the computer. It will install the drivers again.
