Running ImageMagick "identify" Command
What is the ImageMagick "identify" command? How can I use it?
✍: FYIcenter.com
The ImageMagick "identify" command returns the format and characteristics of one or more image files. The information returned includes the image number, the file name, the width and height of the image, whether the image is colormapped or not, the number of colors in the image, the number of bytes in the image, the format of the image (JPEG, PNM, etc.), and finally the number of seconds it took to read and process the image. Many more attributes are available with the verbose option.
You can try it in these steps:
1. Go download a picture in .jpg format and save it as test.jpg.
2. Open a command line window.
3. Run "identify test.jpg" command. It will return something like:
C:\fyicenter>identify test.jpg test.jpg JPEG 2592x1944 2592x1944+0+0 8-bit sRGB 1.473MB 0.000u 0:00.001
The output confirms that the image is saved in JPEG format and the image has 2592x1944 pixels.
