How to get my computer defaults to change to Microsoft using Windows 8

Q

Trying to set my computer defaults to Microsoft so I can use my Microsoft email and send a webcam video. I went to the control panel and went into select computer defaults and changed it to Microsoft and hit okay. But then it said it was setting defaults in windows media player and when I went into my webcam to send my email it said it wasn't set up for email. So, why is it doing that? Does it take a few minutes to setup?

You may or may not know that Windows Vista was the last OS to come with a desktop email program. Windows 7 and 8 do not come with any successor to the Windows Vista Mail program. Instead, you can get it as an optional download from the Windows Essentials page. Sure, Windows 8 does have a bare-bones basic email app, but it's designed for tablets/phones and light use. If you want something that compares to the Vista mail program (such as the ability to send emails from desktop-based programs like your webcams), you're going to want to get the free Essentials download at that link before you move forward. Then it will work fine.
