Volume/sound icon is missing from taskbar and cannot be added
When I try to add the volume icon by right clicking on the taskbar and going to Properties, the option to add the icon is not allowed:
When I try to customise the notification area icons via Control Panel it makes no difference and the volume icon does not come up in the taskbar.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

Please click the little ^ icon in the taskbar and select customize. Select 'turn system icons on or off' and navigate to the sound icon. Make sure it is on.
If it is already on, select 'restore default icon behaviours'.
Just clicked 'Restore default icon behaviours' and the volume icon is back.
