How can I download pictures from my iPhone onto my windows 8 laptop

I have a new Toshiba satellite laptop with Windows 8 and have been trying to download pictures from my iPhone onto the laptop with no luck. I have also tried to get my Lexmark printer to work on Windows 8,with no luck, they all worked fine on my old Toshiba laptop on vista.
