Microsoft Office (incl. Word) does not come with Windows 8 (or any other version of Windows) - it is an application suite that must be purchased separately. If you had it before and did not purchase it, it was probably an 'OEM' version that came bundled by your PC manufacturer (& which you paid for at the same time as your PC). You should also note that OEM software is tied to its original PC (motherboard actually) and cannot be transferred to a new machine.

Check to see if you were meant to get Microsoft Office with your current PC.

If you have Windows 8 you should be able to access Word via a tile on your Start screen. You can check whether its installed by looking in the Programs and Features section of Control Panel.

If you do not have Microsoft Word you may buy it either individually or part of a Microsoft Office suite. Please see:

Windows 8 still has the basic word processor called WordPad built-in. Just type WordPad when at your Start screen until it appears.
