error 0x800ffff:catastrophic error when trying to make a new folder
I have an external hard drive. It works fine, I've scanned it and everything.
I can copy files to an from it, play videos off of it, but if I try to create a new folder, I get the above error. I just can't figure it out.

if you could help me with more information on this issue.
1. What is the exact/complete error message?
2. Is this issue specific when creating a new folder? Can you edit/rename the folders?
I would suggest you to disconnect the external hard drive (HD) restart the computer, plug in the HD into different usb slot and check if it helps. Place the computer in clean boot to check if any third party application is causing the issue, as clean boot helps in eliminating software conflicts.
Note: After troubleshooting, see the section “Reset the computer to start as usual†to return the computer to a Normal startup mode.
