Every time I had tried to open chrome of firefox, I would get the error message that said the application had failed to start due to side by side configuration errors. The only browser that works is IE, and I tried to uninstall and reinstall Microsoft visual c++ packages already, but when I try to install them, I get the same error messages. It stared when I allowed the windows antivirus software to make changes to my computer, is there a way I can reverse that?

This error comes up when Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package/operating system files are corrupt.

I have come across similar issue on which they suggested to run System File Checker tool before reinstalling Visual C++. You may try this and check.

If SFC SCAN does not fix the issue, please Perform clean boot and check.

Clean boot will help us identify if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue.

Note: After checking the functionality in clean boot, follow the suggestions under “How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting”.

You may perform system restore, that will revert the changes you made.

Press ‘Windows Key + R key’
In the run window type ‘rstrui.exe’ and click on OK
Click on next in the System Restore window.

Now choose the restore point of your choice, and try to restore your computer back to earlier state.
