Removing "Virtualized\C" Temporary Files on Windows 7
What files are stored in the "C:\Users\<userid>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Virtualized\C" folder? Can I delete them?
✍: FYIcenter.com
Files stored in the
"C:\Users\<userid>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Virtualized\C"
folder are also called Compatibility Files.
These files are working files created by legacy applications that are not truly compatible with Windows 7.
On Windows 7, legacy applications who used to create working files in protected system folders on older versions of Windows are now forced to use this "Virtualized" folder. For example, an older version of Yahoo! Messenger will be forced to use this folder to create working flies.
Temporary files are also created in this folder by Internet Explorer running in Private mode.
Yes, you can remove everything in this folder. But you should review them before deleting them. Some files might be your own documents created by some applications using this folder as the document folder.
