A

A process is a copy of a program running in the CPU.

When you run a program, a process of that program will created in CPU to run. Usually, if run the same program again without closing the first run, a second process of that program will be created in the CPU to run. So you can have multiple processes of the same program running in the CPU.

Normally, there are many processes running on a Windows 7 system. Most of these processes are system programs running to maintain the system and Internet connection. Other processes are your application programs you are running like Web browsers, games, etc.

The primary tool to view and manage processes is the Task Manager, which can be accessed by right-clicking the task bar and select "Start Task Manager". See next tutorials for more details.
