Since DVD uses the ISO 9660 file system, contents on a DVD-Video (movie) disc are organized into a file directory structure with single required directory:

\ - Root directory

VIDEO_TS\ - VIDEO Title Set directory
      VIDEO_TS.BUP - Back up of VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.IFO - Information of the first movie segment
VIDEO_TS.VOB - Contents of the first movie segment
      VTS_xx_0.BUP - Back up of VTS_xx_0.IFO
VTS_xx_0.IFO - Information of an additional movie segment
VTS_xx_0.VOB - Contents of an additional movie segment: part 1
VTS_xx_1.VOB - Contents of an additional movie segment: part 2
      ...

Other files and directories may show up on movie DVD discs, like:

\ - Root directory
AUTORUN.INF - Auto-run information telling OS to run some program
   dvd-rom.exe - Flash Player 5.0 r30
   go.exe - Bar code

AUDIO_TS\ - Audio Title Set directory
... - Audio files. Empty for DVD-Video discs

JACKET_P\ - Directory of still pictures on WB & Sony movie DVD
      xxxxxxxx.MP2 - MPEG-2 encoded still picture
