to allow applications to be executed in a software environment instead of
the operating system's runtime environment.
The .NET Framework runtime environment is also called the Common Language Runtime (CLR).
CLR provides a virtual machine to its running applications, like JVM (Java Virtual Machine) for Java applications.
Versions of .NET Framework:
.NET Framework 1.0 - Released in 2002
.NET Framework 1.1 - Released in 2003
.NET Framework 2.0 - Released in 2005
