Can I use a Windos 8.1 Pro Pack to upgrade Windows 8 to Windows 8 Pro.
I have a Windows 8 machine. I want to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro. I *do not* want or intend to "upgrade" to Windows 8.1 (ever).
I was told at a store there is "no such thing" as a "Windows 8 Pro Pack" (despite I've used one in the past) and offered a "Windows 8.1 Pro Pack". Can a "Windows 8.1 Pro Pack" (product key) be used to upgrade a Windows 8 install to Windows 8 Pro?

You should first upgrade Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 then apply the Windows 8.1 Pro Pack.
See for instructions:
http://techingiteasy.wordpress.com/2013/10/17/how-to-upgrade-from-windows-8-to-windows-8-1/
then:
Press Windows key + X
Click System
Under Windows Edition, click the link:
Get more features with a new edition of Windows
Click the 'I already have a product key link'
Enter your product key and you will be upgraded to Pro.
