Application Management (AppMgmt) Service on Windows Server 2008
What is the "Application Management (AppMgmt)" system service on Windows Server 2008? Can I disable "Application Management"?
✍: FYIcenter.com
"Application Management (AppMgmt)" is a Windows Server 2008 service that
processes installation, removal, and enumeration requests for software
deployed through Group Policy. If the service is disabled, users will be
unable to install, remove, or enumerate software deployed through Group
Policy. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on
it will fail to start.
Detailed information on "Application Management" service:
Service name: AppMgmt Display name: Application Management Execution command: C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs Dependencies: None
"Application Management" service is provided by the svchost.exe program, see "svchost.exe Executable Program on Windows Server 2008" for details.
Disabling "Application Management" service should not cause any issues on running Windows Server 2008. If you are not using the Group Policy to manage applications on the system, you can disable "Application Management" to improve system performance and security.
