How to connect your computer to a wireless router?

Here are the steps of how to connect your computer to the Internet through a wireless router?

Connect your wireless router to an existing Internect connection, like a DSL modem.
Connect the power supply to your wireless router. Power on the DSL modem.
Start your computer.

When you are done, your wireless router should be connected as shown in the picture below: Wireless Router Connection .

when i connect to the modem directly using ethernet cable i get speed of 200kbps, but when i use WiFi via a router connected to modem i get speed of less than 20kbps. Why?
