How do you transfer Windows 8 licence to a new machine

Q

I upgraded an old low spec machine from win 7 to win 8. The pc is old and whilst Win8 runs ok I have purchased a newer higher spec machine which I wish to transfer the license to. I will not be keeping or selling the old machine.
There is a chance after running the upgrade assistant that the new machine may have issues which would aborting the install.
Could anyone advise the best process to go about this please. The same question would also apply for instance is an existing machine died and wanted to reuse the licence on a new machine

You will need to ensure Windows 8 is removed the machine by either formatting it or reinstall Windows 7. You can then proceed to transfer Windows 8 to the new machine.
Please note, if the Windows 8 license is an upgrade:
To install an upgrade version of Windows 8, you must already have Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP installed on your PC. If you formatted the drive before the upgrade version of Windows 8 was installed, you won't be able to use your upgrade product key to activate Windows 8. To activate Windows 8, you'll need to install your previous version of Windows, and then reinstall Windows 8.
Once you have transferred to the new machine, you will need to reactivate by telephone:
1. Press Windows key + X then clickRun, then type: slui.exe 4
2. Next press the 'ENTER' key
3. Select your 'Country' from the list.
4. Choose the 'Phone Activation' option.
5. Stay on the phone (do not select/press any options) and wait for a person to help you with activation.
6. Explain your problem clearly to the support person.
