By default, Windows 10 contacts Windows Defender SmartScreen server to perform security check when you start a new application.

If there is an issue to connect to the Windows Defender SmartScreen server running by Microsoft, you will get the following error message:

SmartScreen can't be reached right now

Check your Internet connection. Windows Defender SmartScreen is
unreachable and can't help you decide if this app is ok to run.
