Need to know how to receive and send email on my new laptop

You have many choices:
1. You can use the built-in mail app that comes with Windows 8 (a poor
choice, in my view).
2. You can use any of the many web-based e-mail services, such as
Outlook.com, Gmail, yahoo mail, etc. (another poor choice, in my view)
3. The best choice: You can acquire and use any of the many e-mail
programs; some are by Microsoft, some are by third parties. And some
are for sale and some are free. You might even want to try several of
these and settle on the one you like best.
Personally, I like and use Microsoft Outlook (not Outlook.com, a
completely different thing), but that needs to be bought if you want
it, either alone or as part of Microsoft Office.
