Java not working on Windows 8

Q

I have tried updating java about 7 times now, and every time after I update I try running Minecraft, and I get an error... \ "This application requires a Java Runtime Enviorment 1.6.0" I just don't know what to do now...

Uninstall all versions of Java (JRE). Restart the computer. Install the latest versions of both 32-bit and 64-bit JRE 6 and JRE 7. You can have both, yes.
