Answer 1:
I'd recommend you to open the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter and check if it helps.
a. Press Windows key+ W, that would bring up Settings Search.
b. Type "Troubleshoot" and select "Troubleshooting"
c. Click on "Hardware and Sound"
d. Click "Hardware and Devices"
e. Follow the instructions.

Answer 2:
Check if the DVD drive is listed in Disk Management.
a. Press Windows key to launch Desktop.
b. Right click on the space next the Internet Explorer at the Tastbar and select Disk Management.
c. If the DVD drive is listed in the Disk Management, right click and change the Drive Letter and check if that helps.

Answer 3:
1. Run Command Prompt as an Administrator. Type cmd in Windows 8 Metro UI and press cltr+shift+enter
2. Type following and say enter
reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001
3. Reboot the system
4. Verify if the problem has been resolved.

Device manager it shows with yellow colour. In the relevant register can not find upper and lower filters. With windows 8 all the other devices are working well except DVD driver. Highly appreciate your quick answer since very difficult to work without a DVD ram. I tried fixing an external DVD RoM and it also did not functioned and same experience.
